Whittier ECE-8 is a family school dedicated to providing an environment where each child’s individual needs are met and celebrated. We provide a rich, invigorating academic foundation and culturally rich experience through the connections of school, home and community.
Whittier is a community focused school where students are challenged, cared for and celebrated!
Whittier’s Black Excellence Plan goals focus on our students’ social emotional health and academic growth in literacy. We strive to analyze pertinent data collected throughout the school year from the Behavioral and Emotional Screening System (BESS) Student Self Report and from the literacy progress monitoring tool, Istation, as it pertains to our Black students. The data allows us to target the needs of our students so that we can provide the appropriate support, strategies and interventions to increase students’ social emotional and academic well-being. Our goal for students’ social emotional well-being is to decrease the number of students who fall into the elevated and extremely elevated categories on the BESS Student Self Report. Likewise, our goal for academic growth is to reduce the number of students on READ Act Plans or who are reading significantly below grade level. Our mission is to elevate Black Excellence by valuing every Black student who walks the halls of Whittier.
